SEMI names Jonathan Davis new North America president

25 November 2008 SEMI has named a long-time employee as its new president of SEMI North America, appointing Jonathan Davis to succeed Victoria Hadfield, effective Jan. 1, 2009. Davis will assume responsibility for the group's North American programs, products, and services and will be responsible for relationships with SEMI members as well as industry, government, and academia in the region. Hadfield moves on to pursue personal interests but will remain with the trade association in an advisory role.

Alistair Jessop to head international power projects for SolarReserve

25 November 2008 SolarReserve named Alistair Jessop as Vice President to oversee its European and other international markets. He will be developing solar power projects in the regions by utilizing SolarReserve’s technology.

Dr. Ghassen E. Jabbour joins Solterra as Chief Science Officer

24 November 2008 Solterra Renewable Technologies’ subsidiary, Hague Corp., the solar technology and quantum dot manufacturing company, has announced its appointment of Dr. Ghassen E. Jabbour as Chief Science Officer. Dr. Jabbour, a Professor of Chemical and Materials Engineering at Arizona State University and Director of Flexible and Organic Electronics Development at the Flexible Display Center (FDC), joins the company to oversee all development and characterization of Solterra’s thin-film Quantum Dot solar cell products.

GT Solar starts breaking ground for expansion

03 December 2007 Groundbreaking on the site of GT Solar’s planned 40,000 square foot expansion project took place last week in New Hampshire.  The expansion begins in the same week as the company announced news of its signing of a $56 million contract with Yingli Green Energy Holding, the China-based photovoltaics manufacturer.

ECN and partners set up Solar Academy

19 November 2007 The ECN (Energy Research Centre of The Netherlands) has announced its plans to establish a Solar Academy in conjunction with its partners to provide professional training to employees in the solar manufacturing industry.  ECN’s partners in the venture are Solland Solar Energy, Limburg Development Co/LIOF and The Institute of Semiconductor Electronics (RWTH Aachen University).

Oerlikon Solar to start skilled recruitment drive

07 November 2007 Oerlikon Solar has said that as part of a major investment and expansion drive it would start an aggressive recruitment drive for “highly skilled individuals to join its rapidly growing solar team.”
