General Summary: Veeco is the world wide technology leader in thin film equipment for manufacturing scale evaporated CIGS thin films enabling the highest device efficiencies with the lowest cost of ownership. As Veeco’s presence and customer base is expanding this Sr. Process Engineer position will be responsible for leading technology roadmaps geared at manufacturing capable processes and hardware allowing for the potential of laboratory CIGS processes to emerge on the landscape as the leading thin film PV technology. The role will focus on process research, and characterization for hardware development, for CIGS, electrodes, and integration aspects enabling advanced generation deposition equipment for best of breed CIGS evaporation technologies.

 

 

                                                                                                                                                                                    

Essential Job Duties:

 

The Candidate must be able to accomplish the following

1.        Develop or modify process formulations, definition of standard processing and equipment requirements and specifications, and review of processing techniques and methods used in the manufacture, fabrication, and evaluation of CIGS based devices (with respect to thin films and integration aspects)

2.        Reviews product requirements with design staff to ensure compatibility of processing method and processing equipment.

3.        Recommend and prepare changes, additions, and modifications which will facilitate improved processes and equipment improvements.

4.        Develop experimental test plans aligned with the process and hardware development objectives.

5.        Leading of a team of engineers and technicians (mix of direct hands on processing capability along with leading others to support activities) for the purpose of executing experimental procedures as developed or directed.

6.        Compile and evaluate test data to determine appropriate limits and variables for process or material specifications using statistical analysis tools such as DOE software (JMP, MiniTab, and others)

7.        Oversee and execute customer demonstrations using R&D based and manufacturing scale equipment while being the technical point of contact for our customers.

8.        Conduct process demonstration portion of equipment acceptance tests at factory and at customer site.

9.        Provided support to systems manufacturing to resolve process related problems.

10.     Create and evolve PVD processes to deliver optimal coatings given specific electro-optical criteria.

11.     Travel for supporting customer oriented technology joint development programs and support of system installations and process issue resolutions

 

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • M.S. in engineering, physics, or materials science,  PhD preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years experience with thin film depositions (e.g. evaporation and sputtering)
  • Focused on CIGS process, and hardware development, coupled with an analytical background.
  • Experience with building high-performance teams developing novel deposition, hardware, and analytical technologies in a fast paced research for manufacturing environment.
  • Track record of technical publications for thin film and hardware development
  • Extensive background in characterization of CIGS devices including composition (ICP, EDS,SIMS, RBS, XPS), Morphology and crystalline structure (SEM, XRD, AFM, others), and general thin film materials properties including optical, electrical, and mechanical characteristics.
  • Prior experience with product development targeted at the CIGS or thin film solar industry is highly desired
  • A background with a capital equipment supplier understanding the issues with system builds, shipment, signoffs, and customer technology roadmap support items related to process and hardware upgrades is highly desired
