In the Business Development Unit, a team of Business Development Managers (BDM’s) are conducting business interactions for all IMEC business lines (BL). Each BL is overlooked by a Business Line coordinator (BLC), who has a pivotal role in the interaction – in a Business team concept - between Technology Units (TU), Business development, IP management and legal services.

Business Development Manager
Job description:
The BDM should pursue and manage new partnerships.
He/she will:
- detect business opportunities in line with BL roadmaps, and give feedback related to customer and market expectations;
- identify new leads for future growth, with a mindset towards building new partnerships;
- take ownership of making business proposals covering offering, cost & price calculations, IP, liabilities assessments, payment schemes…;
- take ownership in business process: follow-up from lead initiation, work with the TU researchers to guide the technical negotiations, and with legal and IP for contract drafting and negotiations, until signature;
- conduct business discussions with the customer in close collaboration with the IMEC TU research leaders and management;
- discuss boundary conditions with regards to legal, IP and financial aspects at the Business Team level;
- build on tactical market intelligence expertise, keeping up to speed with technical trends amongst others by attending related workshops, conferences and events.
He/she should also manage the execution, continuation and growth of existing partnerships.
He/she will:
- proactively take care of the business aspect of an active relationship and be sensitive towards the growth and continued value offering thereof;
- display a responsive attitude towards the customer, by taking care of their requests, assure the required review processes and monitor action follow-up etc…;
- poll for, and channel feedback into the organization, in order to enhance value offering;
- strive for customer satisfaction.
Profile:
You have a Masters degree in Engineering or Exact Sciences. R&D experience in a high-tech environment, is a strong asset. You have more than 5 years experience, of which several years in project management and/or business development.
In view of assuming the abovementioned roles, the BDM is expected to:
- demonstrate operational excellence, by taking actions, coordinating, communicating, driving & assisting decision processes;
- build on excellent communication skills, yielding close and trustful interactions, both internally as externally;
- demonstrate vision by building on a broad-level, generalist technical expertise in the business line of focus, with awareness of market dynamics, in particular in photovoltaics;
- embody a no-nonsense, result-driven approach, with focus on pragmatism, efficiency and sense for compromise;
- be influential by animating the above processes as an open communicator;
- be perfect in English and be prepared to learn Dutch.
