Glass Expert (Solar Division)

Applied Materials’ large-scale thin film production lines are generating new ways to reduce the overall cost of solar electricity and to further accelerate the availability of cost effective solar power.

Applied Materials is seeking a Glass Expert to work in our Solar division in the Santa Clara, CA area. This position within our Core SunFab Engineering group, will advise Engineers on techniques to prevent glass defects (i.e., cracking, chipping, glass autoclave lamination issues, etc.), as well as improve etch quality.

The candidate should know thermal treatments processes, general glass handling best practices, inspection of incoming raw glass materials. The ability to advise on preventing defects, improve coating issues and increase the spectrum of light. This individual will possess a PhD in Materials Science with a specialty in glass and 10+ years' experience as a technologist in glass manufacturing or in applications like automotive glass, etc.  Practical experience is essential to this role.
