Title: Design Engineer
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The design engineer is responsible for component and system level design for vacuum deposition systems. The design engineer will source and design component and system level solutions to market defined performance requirements. Working with a dedicated team of electrical, software, and applications engineers, the design engineer will develop the mechanical solutions that result in technical and market leadership for new capital equipment. The position is a combination of new system, and new component design that are completed in timeframes of one to six months. In this position, the design engineer will have opportunity to initiate a design from the market requirements document through the through the customer evaluation and feed-back phase.
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Design and develop new products for the solar industry, ranging from critical deposition components to full vacuum processing systems.
· Work with internal and external design resources to identify or co-develop improved solutions to material and mechanical problems.
· Develop new intellectual property, including writing patent disclosures and identifying trade secrets.
· Complete Engineering Release and Change Orders including verifying prints and bills of material for best manufacturing methods, serviceability, and cost reduction.
· Maintain schedule adherence including both individual and mechanical designers supporting design project.
· Provide sales and customer resource support for new design opportunities, and for validation of design performance.
· Interface with manufacturing to develop cost-efficient processes such as welding, sheet metal forming, machining.
· Define and perform tests to verify designs
ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
· Mechanical design using 2D and 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred)
· Previous experience with SAP or similar MRP software
· Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project
EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Indicate the minimum experience and education (or equivalent) required to perform job.
· BS in Mechanical Engineering or related degree.
· Previous capital equipment design experience, preferably in the area of vacuum systems, or Automation
· 5+ years experience in mechanical design
