Basic Job Functions:
As part of the Global Product Management Team, the Application Engineer will be responsible for developing and executing the application engineering strategy and activites to support the growing North American PV market and overall business strategy. You will create, refine, and execute applications engineering processes which support the delivery of technical support information to North American customers. You will lead the definition and execution of module and system characterization strategy to align with desired product positioning outcomes.
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of work experience in a results-oriented position
- Experience in project management and project planning fundamentals
- Proven ability to communicate technical content to a general audience both verbally and in writing
- Demonstrated ability to lead activites and resources
- Demonstrated customer interface experience
- Familiarity with Design of Experiment fundamentals
- Working knowledge of statistical and mathematical data analysis techniques
- Working experience with PV or Wind Energy Systems and/or Electric Power Utilities (a plus)
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Photovoltaics (PV) or directly related field (minimum)
Required Skills:
- MS Office (including Access or equivalent database)
- Experience with statistical/mathematical modeling tools and/or software programming a plus
- Strong technical and marketing writing skills that effectively bridge engineer to executive
- Ability to hold a broad focus while maintaining attention to detail
- Superior communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to continuous improvement
- Demonstrated self-motivation and aptitude for problem-solving
- Familiarity with PV System energy prediction tools and industry best practices (a plus)
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive understanding of First Solar PV system and module design, performance, and application requirements
- Design and execute module and system characterization studies, simulations and projects in order to optimize PV system design practices and eventual system performance.
- Execute energy prediction simulations and sensitivity analysis to define, validate, and optimize system design parameters.
- Identify gaps in data availability and measurement practices that prevent full comprehension of performance and sensitivity analyses; Develop action plans to remove them.
- Develop and implement repeatable processes for continous monitoring, analysis and update of critical module/system performance factors.
- Develop understand ing of localized requirements and impact on module/system performance and applications through customer interface; communicate them to the organization; develop solutions and responses to support market needs.
- Develop, publish, and present internal and customer-facing content to both executive and technical audiences (presentations, application notes, white papers, etc..)
- Own First Solar’s System Design and Application process and provide direct technical support leadership for the North American customer base.
