Basic Job Functions:
The Global Root Cause Manager role leads the global root cause team consisting of operations in the US, Europe, and Asia. Primary accountability of the root cause team is sustaining and improving product performance yield (module conversion efficiency). The Root Cause Team is a part of First Solar’s Technology Development Organization. Expected travel is approximately 30% to lead global organization.
Experience:
· Minimum 10 years of experience in yield, integration, device, development or process engineering organizations is required
- 5 or more years of experience managing or supervising
- Experience with PV / solar cells and understanding of PV device is desired
Education:
· BS (MS or PhD strongly preferred) in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
Required Skills:
- Demonstrated ability to manage technical teams, set objectives/ deliverables and roadmaps for future performance.
- Experience in recruiting and building technical teams
- Proven history of technical contributions and technical problem solving. Ability to identify and implement creative solutions.
- Demonstrated proficiency in troubleshooting to root cause the drivers of yield or product performance variation
- Experience in manufacturing, high volume ramp and new process implementation.
- Experience working in a global organization, working with international teams.
- Strong organizational and communication skills to manage global team to effectively execute and to deliverables
- Ability to successfully work with cross function teams to complete deliverables
- Excellent data analysis skills, strong knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Design of Experiments (DOE) principles
- Strong understanding of structured problem solving techniques, understanding of Six Sigma methods desirable.
- Understanding of semiconductor device physics
- Understanding of and ability to interpret the results from analytical techniques such as SEM and various compositional analysis measurements
- Strong understanding of semiconductor processes, materials and equipment related topics.
- Fluency in English, understanding of German and/or Malay is a plus.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Lead the global root cause team consisting of operations in the US, Europe and Asia. Oversee the staffing of team to ensure sufficient resources to meet team deliverables.
- Establish team goals and deliverables. Own a defined portion of the Technology Development roadmap. Contribute to revisions of the Technology Development roadmap.
- Sustian First Solar product performance yield (solar module conversion efficeincy) at company targets across global operations, reduce variation in performance yield.
- Identify the drivers of performance yield. Implement preventative measures to eliminate causes once identified to root cause.
- Establish systems and lead team to reduce performance variation within local plants and between global sites.
- Build and implement systems to ensure rapid response to process excursions and drive to quick solutions.
- Lead efforts to improve on process definition and control of developed processes. Collaborate with Failure Analysis and Development Engineering to identify, define and implement key product / process measurements to reduce performance variation.
- Lead efforts to improve on identifying parameters to allow for equipment matching across plants and sites.
- Identify new metrology tools and yield analysis tools.
- Support new plant / manufacturing line start ups.
- Participate in technology start-up, transfer, and ramp activities from development site to meet yield, reliability, cost, and device performance goals.
- Ensure adherence to all safety and environemental procedures as well as housekeeping standards.
