First Solar, a high-technology, state-of-the-art, rapidly growing developer and manufacturer of thin film Photovoltaic (PV) technology in solar modules located in Perrysburg, Ohio is seeking a results oriented Engineer who will work on process and developmental activities in the finishing area.
The Finishing Engineer will improve solar module performance by optimizing production processes using statistical techniques. This will be achieved in a cost efficient manner in accordance with company core values
Essential Functions & Responsibilities include:
• Identify areas of potential improvement in the production process. Design, execute and analyze screening and optimization tests.
• Improve process capability and reduce variation by identifying significant process / product parameters and determine methods for process control or develop robust processes.
• Identifying opportunities for improvement in process equipment design. Successfully interact with manufacturing and design engineers / maintenance technicians to implement equipment modifications.
• Evaluation of novel polymers, adhesives, conductive tapes, tests, and lamination techniques
• Set process set points for the product at each stage of finishing
• Continuously improve existing equipments cycle time
• Design of novel equipment
• Project leader for large cross departmental teams addressing red flag issues for the company
• Write detailed material specifications for materials and compounds used in Finishing
• Successfully interact with other development, manufacturing and production personnel to carryout engineering tests on the production line.
• Communicate results of engineering tests in a clear and concise manner. Be able to communicate with upper management, development and manufacturing engineers, and production personnel
• Ensure adherence to all Safety Procedures and Housekeeping standards.
Education and Experience Requirements include:
· MS in Chemical. Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Polymer Science / Engineering or similar engineering discipline PhD a plus
· 5- 7 years experience as a Process / Development Engineer (or similar role) in a high-tech industry (semiconductor or photovoltaic field preferred)
· 10+ years of manufacturing work experience is preferred
Required Skills
· Knowledge of Process Engineering techniques and practices
· Six Sigma Methods (SPC tools, DOE, Measurement Systems Analysis, Multiple Linear Regression, Tolerance Testing, ANOVA, FMEA, AIAG tools) the application of Taguchi Robust Parameter Design preferred.
· Experience with using Statistical software (MiniTab, JMP preferred)
