SV Solar, a venture funded start-up in Silicon Valley California is rapidly growing and adding key staff. SV Solar has developed a unique concentrator technology, Sol-XTM, which provides a cost-effective solution to the market by replacing more than 50% of the standard silicon PV material in the module with a low cost optical concentrator.

 

SV Solar is targeting the grid-tied commercial roof-top application with their Sol-X technology. The company has successfully built and tested prototype modules and plans to ramp up production on a pilot manufacturing line during the middle of this year, with mass production scheduled for early 2009.

 

At this stage of the company’s development, a critical new function is being added to ensure a successful launch of the product later this year. The Solar Applications & Systems Engineering function will act as a critical component in establishing the distribution channel for the company with US and International system integrators.

 

This position will play a key role on the sales and marketing team. The Solar/Applications Engineer will assist in the definition of new photovoltaic module products in a close working relationship with product marketing and the engineering staff. This individual will spec and design representative systems including the balance of system components. They will work closely with architects and installers to resolve technical issues, educate customers about our products, and assist customers with the engineering of their installations. This individual will provide technical support for the sales and marketing team, and will help guide the team in the development of strategies for targeting emerging markets for the technology.

 Roles & Responsibilities:

 

- Provide overall technical support for SV Solar’s Sol-X solar module products.

- Develop design specification for sample configurations including all system components.

- Develop and maintain documentation regarding compatible non-module system components including racking,   trackers, inverters, monitoring systems etc.

- Assist in the modeling of system performance and annual energy production.

- Work closely with customers, architects, installers, and engineers to resolve technical issues.

- Provide technical consultation to the sales and marketing team.

- Consult with customers regarding installation design—including mounting, components, and overall performance.

- Recommend product improvements for existing Sol-X modules, and assist in new product definition.

- Improve/Develop standard operating procedures for the design and installation of Sol-X solar modules.

- Gather, monitor, and assess performance data obtained from installations of Sol-X modules. Perform detailed technical competitive analysis of solar modules.

- Provide technical documentation as required for sales and marketing.

 

Qualifications & Skills:

- Demonstrated knowledge of the solar industry—including solar cells, modules, inverters,  monitoring systems and other system components.

- Extensive knowledge of photovoltaic market, technologies, components, and customers.

- Five plus years of experience designing, managing and/or installing PV solar systems.

- Project management experience on solar installations.

- Familiarity with the PPA model and pertinent financial modeling and metrics.

- Knowledge of NEC codes and appropriate building codes.

- Familiarity with LEED and green building helpful.

- Experience in establishing and enhancing processes and standard operation procedures.

- Excellent written and oral communication skills.

- Team player with strong customer service skills.

- Strong computer skills Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point)

 

Education:

Bachelors Degree in Engineering—Mechanical, Civil, or Electrical preferred.
