GT Solar Incorporated is currently seeking systems engineer with focus on materials science and applications to support advanced technology development and engineering design for crystalline silicon and sapphire casting equipment. This person will utilize her/his breadth and depth of knowledge on materials science to tackle technical problems, create innovative concepts, and provide engineering solutions. Travel might be needed but not more than 10% for this role.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

§  Lead the systems engineering activities on sapphire and multi-crystalline silicon crystal growth furnace design and engineering.

§  Generate initiatives of innovative solution in materials application for GT’s furnace product line.

§  Evaluate and improve materials selection and hardware design to enhance existing product’s performance.

§  Provide leadership and technical guidance in materials science on problem solving, systems engineering, and technology development.

§  Conduct design of experiments of materials testing and hardware evaluation.

§  Optimize improvements working with internal team and customers.

§  Test reproducibility of improvements and incorporate in upgrades to existing products.

§  Develop continuous improvement in processes and equipment.

§  Must be able to assist in the creation and maintain complex documentation sets, involving highly technical material, for training purposes under limited supervision.

§  Help to identify and implement standards and process improvements.

§  Perform simultaneous task and project coordination for multiple projects.

§  Knowledge of all aspects of capital projects, project management and planning skills

§  Must be able to work independently with limited supervision

Requirements

§  Ph.D. or MS in materials, physics, ME, EE, or ChE (Ph.D. in materials preferred).

§  Extensive experience in materials science research, engineering, and applications.

§  Prefer to have background/experience in graphite materials with focus on high temperature applications.

§  Prefer to have experience in silicon, ceramics, and metallurgy.

§  Familiar with and be able to understand and interact with vendors.

§  Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.

§  Excellent analytical, organizational, planning, project management and problem-solving/troubleshooting skills.

§  Comfortable in a manufacturing environment.

§  Minimum of 10 years of industrial experience in an engineering or manufacturing environment.
